Civilization II MacOS 1.0 • 07/24/97 • Notes for Windows Civilization II Players
Civilization II for MacOS has numerous feature enhancements that are different
from Civilization II for Windows. A list of these enhancements follows:
1) No Herald Warning
The memory warning that allows the user to turn off animated heralds is not
necessary on the Macintosh and has been removed.
2) Label Select in City Style Dialog
In the "City Style" dialog where the user chooses the icon style for his/her
cities, the user may now click on the name of the city style as well as it's
icon.
3) Number Filtering in Edit Fields
All edit fields in the program that require numbers to be typed in will now ONLY
accept numbers.
4) Standard MacOS Menus
The Edit Menu has been added; the Game Menu on Windows is
now the File Menu, & the About box has been moved to the Apple Menu - all in
accordance to MacOS standards.
5) Quit/Retire Dialogs
The Quit/Retire dialogs now have a better, more Mac-like interface.
6) Resolution Scaling
Default Resolution scaling only occurs on monitors greater than 1200 pixels wide.
7) Improved Lists
List boxes are now sorted alphabetically & lists support type-selection.
8) Settler Drawing In List
The "Settler" icon is drawn better in the buy/change list.
9) City Drawing in Foreign Minister List
The city icons are drawn better in the Foreign Minister list.
10) Default Buttons in Foreign Minister Window
"Send Emissary" is now the default button in the Foreign Minister dialog.
11) Default Selection in Goals Dialog
In the "What Discovery shall our wise men pursue" dialog, the discovery suggested
in the Science Advisor dialog is selected by default.
12) Plaque Drawing
When meeting a foreign emissary, the plaques that show scientific advances in the
background art are drawn better.
13) Command Keys
The command keys are different from the Windows command keys.
14) High Council Window
The High Council window has been laid out differently.
15) Control Tracking Added
Various controls (such as the zoom boxes) now "track" when they are clicked in
accordance to MacOS human interface guidelines.
16) Default Buttons
Default Buttons now flash when activated by keystrokes & are outlined with grey
border in accordance to MacOS human interface guidelines.
17) City Window Buttons
The buttons in the city window now flash when their single key equivalents are
used.
18) Opening Dialog Placement
The opening dialogs have been centered on the screen as an ease of use improvment.
19) Revert Game
The "Revert Game" menu option has been added to allow the user to revert to the last opened or saved game.
20) Single Key Command Listing
The "View Single Key Commands..." menu option has been added to allow the user to view all the single key command equivalents.
21) Larger Active Player Rectangle
The colored rectangle in the corner of the status window which denotes the currently active player has been made larger.
22) Version Information
The version information displayed in the title of the "Game Options" dialog is now the Macintosh version string.
23) Save Option When Quitting
The "Quit" confirmation dialog now gives the user the option to save the game.
24) Quit In First Dialog
The "Cancel" button in the main menu dialog has been renamed to "Quit."
25) High Council CD Alert
The user is now told that the High Council cannot be viewed if the CD is not loaded.
26) Double Clicking on Files
Double-clicking on files in the Finder will open the appropriate Civilization II application, i.e. the game or the map editor.
27) Throne Room Art Improvements
The Throne Room components have been reordered to match better.
28) Tutorial Default
The Tutorial is now defaulted to on for the first three difficulty levels.
29) General MacOS-style Visual Changes
Throughout the program, the appearance of things has been changed to conform more
closely with MacOS standards.
30) Various Bug Fixes
Throughout the program, various bugs that existed in Civilization II for Windows have been fixed.
